Why can't I convert cups to grams? Volume-to-weight conversion depends on the specific ingredient's density (a cup of flour and a cup of honey weigh very different amounts), so this tool only converts within volume units or within weight units, using standard published US customary and metric conversion factors.

This converter handles volume units (teaspoons through liters) and weight units (ounces through kilograms) separately, since converting between the two requires knowing the specific ingredient’s density. A cup of flour and a cup of honey have very different weights, so a true cups-to-grams conversion needs to reference that specific ingredient rather than a single universal factor.

For recipes that list both a volume and weight measurement (common in baking recipes that came from a scale-based source), use whichever measurement your kitchen tools already support rather than converting between the two.

Where These Numbers Come From

Conversion factors used here are standard published US customary and metric equivalents (1 US teaspoon = 4.92892 mL, 1 ounce = 28.3495 g, etc.), not ingredient-specific estimates.
